We wanted to spotlight our new staff and faculty as a group who have brought tremendous spirit to Newman. Not unlike new students, new faculty and staff have joined Newman as part of a cohort, class, or group. Sharing our “newness” with others serves us to feel a special connection while we navigate the larger community.
We are all only new once and our first impressions are often quite on-target and valuable! Some new faculty/staff impressions:
“The SSC has already been a community hub for students seeking a quiet place to spend their free blocks/study hall block! I have enjoyed getting to know high school and middle school students alike, as we gear up for more intensive course loads with the progression of the school year. I am looking forward to diving deeper with offering support in our little corner of Newman on Level 2!”
“My first week was fast paced, exciting and most importantly, super fun! As my 7th graders were walking out of class today they were talking about how excited they were to work on their homework—AND they were not even being sarcastic—it was genuine. It was great to see such a diverse group of students bond over something like solving math problems.”
“A small space with a big heart and endless possibilities."
“My first days at Newman left me with a feel-good feeling. I felt warmly welcome. There is a collegiality and a gentleness between all members of the community.”
“Hearing about where students come from and their differing educational experiences (one girl knew three different languages fluently!); the beautiful weather and seeing students eat in the park; the openness with which clubs accept and integrate new students.”
“Once I was able to get my feet on the ground it felt as if I’ve been here for years. From the staff to the students, I have been welcomed with open arms.”
Newman provides opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds to pursue serious studies in a welcoming and supportive environment where self and community are paramount.
