About Newman Library    

 

There is no limit to the services provided at the Newman Library which is an integral part of the Boston Public Library and Metro Boston Library Network [MBLN]. Our students register for a Boston Public Library card here at school and use the same online catalog and circulation network.

Our mission is:

  • to support the Newman curriculum through access to a wide range of resources
  • to encourage the love of reading for pleasure
  • to value the level of each student's expertise and support each one's search for growth
  • to value, support, and encourage the exploration and access of information, knowledge, truth, and wisdom

On a daily basis we provide:

  • a welcoming, comfortable environment for study
  • a collection of 3000+ books specifically relevant to the Newman curriculum
  • a selection of daily newspapers and current magazines
  • access to Horizon our online catalog, research databases, and the internet
  • access to Encyclopedia Britannica online, with 24 hour off-site availability for the Newman community 
  • access to ARTstor Digital Image Library
  • an audiovisual collection of 300+ items for Faculty / Classroom use
  • access to 7.5 million books held by the Boston Public Library with over 2 million items that can be borrowed
  • shared resources with the Metro Boston Regional System including local college collections
  • assistance in locating and using materials
  • access to My Library Account where students can renew, reserve, and follow through on book choices 24 hours a day

We frequently offer:

  • classroom instruction on the research process and use of the online catalog.
  • instruction in the use of research databases.
  • book discussion groups.
  • information about local author events.
  • field trips to the Boston Public Library in order to become familiar with
           -the location of the resources and collections  
           -the history, art, and architecture of this beautiful building.
